openDemocracy
Website
openDemocracy is an independent internet magazine and discussion forum based in London, updated daily, which publishes original commissioned articles on matters of politics, economics, and culture from around the world. After only two years of operation, we have around 30,000 registered users in 150 countries. Access is free, though we are shortly restricting our archive in order to make limited commercial and licensing use of the accumulated knowledge, learning and wisdom we have gathered over this period – a move partly impelled by our desire to pay our authors…
We have run strong, combative but open and undogmatic debates on globalisation, US power, migration, Europe and Islam, the Iraq war (which included many Iraqi voices), and many other topics.
Among our contributors are scholars like Anatol Lieven, David Held, Karen von Hippel and Philip Bobbitt; journalists like Peter David (foreign editor of The Economist), Michael Naumann (editor-in-chief of Die Zeit) and Patrice De Beer (of Le Monde); and writers like Andre Glucksmann, Ariel Dorfman, and Candida Clark.
We also have a good record in syndicating material published on our site – to papers as far afield as El Pais, The Times, and La Tercera (Chile), specialist magazines like Q News (a magazine for British Muslims) and Designer Builder (a US architectural journal), and many others. We have a good marketing team who make sure that our best work is circulated to media organisations, with many radio and TV interviews ensuing for our authors.
