It's not ironic. The karma function came along with the forum software. The site's other function problems derive from incompatibilities between the site's previous formatting code and the one used by default on the forum software.
You know, I can't help wondering whether your experience of features like this might not be more in the trim if you made a conscious effort not to be so vituperative.

I think the karma function is the best thing that has ever happened to this, or any, message board. It encourages good philosophizing, and allows any user to easily discern who the truly worthwhile minds are here.
