[quote1203270501=TheBlindMan] So, I've come to the conclusion that life, in its entirety, IS art. I want to hear what you think.

If you were born in Japan you would probably be practicing Buddhism and writing haiku. If you were born in the Appalacian mountains you would probably be a member of Reverend Sky Pilot's snake handling church and playing on a homemade banjo. But if you want to make your life an art, then you better be willing to deal with the consequences because under certain conditions it's not safe to not do what the Romans do.

It is an interesting thought to see the life as art but from my point of view it depends on what I do with my life. Just staying at home and doing nothing isn't really art to me.

me thinks "Art" is an outdated and over rated form left over from the
days of uber elite of a past time.....an outdated form of mtv, as it were.
This "form" has been elevated as a financial structure, and is basically
bullshit. The proper word would be "human creativity" art is the junk left over in fred sanfords garage ,,, after he died. {or the pope}

This recently dawned on me. In essence, art is our actions and experiences portrayed in our minds through many different ways in order to find beauty, significance, and truth. And I think we can all agree that one's quality of life is relative to the actions and experiences we partake in. You've all probably heard the saying, Life is what you make it. Like a living canvas, always changing with each stroke of our lives. So, I've come to the conclusion that life, in its entirety, IS art. I want to hear what you think.

An interesting topic. I am not sure if I agree with how you frame the 'essence' of art, however I am certainly interested in the idea of 'life' being 'art'.
I recommend Alexander Nehamas' The Art of Living: Socratic Reflections from Plato to Foucault

Another great book by Nehamas is Nietzsche; Life as Literature
