Article: Linguist gives talk on human nature
Book: The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker
"Pinker introduced René Descartes’ “Ghost in the Machine” ideology, which states that human souls are completely separate from the human biological system.
“It separates humans from machines, implying that humans have higher purposes — love, worship and the pursuits of joy and beauty,” Pinker said.
The impacts of the “Ghost in the Machine” dogma, Pinker argued, have led to the beliefs that “freedom, dignity, responsibility . . . are incompatible with a biological view of the mind.”"
