Faculty of Arts Department of Philosophy 4 Lecturers, Fixed Term As part of its retention and replacement strategy, the Department of Philosophy is seeking to appoint four temporary Lecturers for one year, beginning 1 September 2007. The posts arise in the first instance out of the need to cover the study leave of a number of members of staff and cover undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision in the following areas: History of Science (with relevant philosophical interests) Philosophy of Science (preferably with interests in philosophy of biology) Philosophy (preferably with interests in epistemology) Philosophy (preferably with interests in value theory and/or history of philosophy) The intention is to appoint to a maximum of two positions at University Grade 8. For a Lecturer appointment, you will have a PhD (awarded or nearing completion) in an appropriate area of Philosophy or History and Philosophy of Science, relevant experience of teaching within the discipline and will be developing a publication profile appropriate for submission in the next RAE exercise. For all posts you will be able to demonstrate effective teaching skills and a range of delivery techniques and assessment methods. For appointment at Lecturer Grade 8 in particular, candidates should have a strong record of research publications, experience of teaching history of science or philosophy in higher education and relevant administrative experience.
